Sociogram of the Habsburg elites in and around Ischl
The late Austro-Hungarian monarchy can be imagined as a power ellipse, with Vienna and Bad Ischl as its two focal points. The Salzkammergut was more than just a summer retreat; politics were conducted here just as they were in the Vienna Hofburg. Accordingly, the imperial court moved with Franz Joseph, and the Viennese nobility also wanted to be close to the emperor in the summer.
To mark this year's Salzkammergut Capital of Culture, “Erbe Österreich” is presenting a sociogram of the Habsburg elites based on their villas and estates in and around Ischl. In this new production, designer Gigga Neunteufel describes how families such as the industrialists Dirsztay, the Starhembergs, Seilern, and Landauer, as well as the bankers Ohrenstein, spent their summers on the Traun River.
The film offers unique insights into the private state rooms and gardens, stunning landscape shots, and intimate glimpses into the society of that time.
